Blocking LVL to SubFloor Joists
I have to remove yellow tongue chipboard in the bathroom and will replace with Scyon Secura Interior. The chipboard was rotten in the shower area and there was cracking in the floor tiles, probably due to movement of the chipboard and perhaps bounce as well and maybe the reactive clay too.
A bunch of blocking (100mm x 45mm LVL) into joists 100mm x 50mm (probably hardwood so needs pre-drilling) is needed to stiffen things up as well as to provide adequate support for the new Scyon and the remaining yellow tongue chipboard cut edges.
Rather than skew nailing, which risks splitting the 100mm x 45mm LVL, how about nailing through the joists into the blocks in a staggered manner using 100mm x 4mm nails, 2 at each block end?
Here's a diagram showing LVL blocking and Scyon sheeting.
I will be getting a copy of AS1684.4 but would appreciate comments, thanks.
