Cavity door, replace metal brace with brace board
Hi all, it's been quite a while but I'm onto a new project, which brings with it new questions.
I want to replace a door with a cavity sliding door. Of course when I exposed the frame I found some metal bracing strap. I need to take out about 750mm of the frame (towards the corner) to form the cavity ... but I figure running the metal strap to the bottom of the cavity frame won't provide the strength of the original frame. As such I was considering covering the rest of the wall (floor to ceiling) from the corner to the door with 6mm brace board (osb) to provide the wall bracing that metal strap prevously provided and then 4mm cement sheet over that as a finishing layer (i.e. total ~10mm thickness to be similar to plaster.
Is this suitable? Is there any infill arrangement that can go between the studs to provide suitable bracing instead? Any suggestions for better or easier ways to achieve this?
Thanks!
