Drywood termites in ply internal walls....
Hi there,
We have just discovered that we have drywood termites in our ply internal walls.
We are assuming we will have to rip out all internal walls and redo...
Any advice on this? Should we treat the frame while the walls are off to make sure they dont attack the frame in the future?
How difficult is it to DIY hang ply on internal walls?
Thanks,
Veecol

have you had them treated? If they are queensland drywood it will cost yopu a bundle, if they are the foriegn buggers the treatment is free.

It is my understanding that the treatment of drywood termites involves enclosing the whole house in a tent-like cover and filling with insecticide. This is obviously an expensive operation.
If they are the indonesian type the govt will pay for the removal as they are and exotic pest like fire ants and other foriegn insects etc.
Queensland drywood termites are not considered an environmental threat as they are natives, therefore the home owner wears the cost.
I could be wrong with all this, the best bet is to call the csiro, they will probably send somone out to inspect.
Are you sure they are dry wood and not subterranean thes ones have to go the ground every 24 hours for moisture and are easier to get rid of.
