Hi,

I have a project with 150x150mm HW posts and we are selecting timber. Eng has specified F17 KD, but suppliers I am talking to say you're not going to get seasoned or KD at this size. From my research I understand using unseasoned for large post and beam projects is not uncommon.

The carpenter is pretty comfortable with whatever, but I am looking b/w Blackbutt and Yellow Stringybark. (leaning towards blackbutt).

I am talking to suppliers, but getting many opinions without a clear direction WRT managing shrinkage and checking through the framing process. The posts are not standalone but are framing posts next to windows and glass doors (although they will be in their own KD frames).

Recycled is equally challenging, but am pursuing laminating some beams into this post size, as these will be 'seasoned' with age.

Has anyone done this before and have any advice?

thanks in advance.
