Leaning walls.
Hi there.
I'm about to begin renovating our 1940s double fronted weatherboard located in Yarraville, Melbourne.
The original house has four main rooms with a central hallway. Somewhere in its life the two left hand rooms were joined with a sliding door, and the wall was extended through the hallway. I hope this makes sense. What is left is a partially separated living area with two rooms, each with a door into the living area. This is the original part of the house.
Out back is a mismatch of crummy extensions, a shed that is now a laundry, an outhouse that is now in inhouse.
My goal is to build an extension out back knocking down the kitchen, bathroom and laundry, while retaining the four ( two) front rooms.
I figured the first step is structural. The floors are flat, but creaky. However, the walls are on the . To me, this seems counter-intuitive. Can I rectify the lean in the walls by some jacking/restumping etc work? Where do I begin? Also, there's no access to the stumps. Only a rat could fit under the house, which has been confirmed.
