Re pointing
Our roof needs doing and thought about having a crack at it ourselves.
Is there a special mixture for this or just use mortar mix?
SWMBO said she thinks there is some sort of elastic mixture which should endure a bit more movement, any ideas??Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

Unfortunately Iain, I cannot personally vouch for it, but 4 years ago we had our roof "restored" to me it looked like normal mortar used on the pointing, excellent job though.

catchy catchphrase needed here, apply in writing to the above .

I did some on my garage extension...mixed up normal sand/cement...stuffed around for ages...but got most of the end gables done...then you finish with stuff like...flexi-point...that is coloured and a rubbery type stuff...not as easy as I thought...I then got the pros into do the ridge caps...they made it look easy...their mortar was like cream...they do it so easy...no mess...then finish off with flexi-point...or similar...they were finished in an hour...and looks great...but they did say my worked looked ok too.

Its best to use a flexiable pointing
I used Tilepoint got it down the local hardware and done it myself on the extension. It comes in differant colours and is much better to finish off then montar although you still set the ridge caps etc in mortar. and finish it off with tilepoint. cheersThinking about mowing the lawn doesn`t get it done !

Whatever you do don't put lime in the mix.
A bloke about 1/2k from us did this about 2 years ago and it still looks like a flock of giant seagulls s..t all over his roof.

If the tiles dont need relaying there is a plastic/mastic out at the moment that all the roofies use around here, cant think of the name a the moment.
If they need relaying just use stong mortar.
Al
I just checked the buckets on my yoot ( I collect buckets ).
Ridgebond is what they all use.

Thankyou all, and Al, may even try Max Bygraves recycled LP's, they seem to be indestructable
I shall pass this all to SWMBO with the ladder so she can go up and try it all out.Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

To make your mortar "creamy" use a mortar plasticiser like Coloro chemlube and fine sand.
The plasticiser is a subsitute for lime.....................................................................
