I’m planning to convert my back skillion roof to a pitch colourbond roof with an attic. The existing front roof is hip and valley with tiles.

The engineer insisted on using a ridge beam instead of ridge board for the back roof. The ridge is 14.4m and supported by 2 posts in between the ends . The ridge beam with the longest span of 7.2m will be metal and the remaining will be LVL.

The metal beam is supported by the structural wall and a metal post. One end of the LVL is supported by the same metal post.

The concerns are:

1. How is the end the LVL ridge beam where the front roof meets the back roof supported if I don't want to stick a post right in the middle of my front roof ?
The engineer said a roof carpenter can work out a method of hanging it from the front roof ridge rafter but I cant find any diagrams on how this is done.

2.Can that section of the roof framed in such a way that Section A acts as a ridge board instead of ridge beam so no end support is required ? If collar ties are needed, how much head roof will be reduced ?
