    Default How to make new zinc look old?

    Hi,

    A mate of mine has an old house with and old zink roof. He has recently replaced the flashing around his chimneys and obviously there is quite a contrast between the old and the new. He would like to age the new tin to match if that is possible - does anyone have any ideas?

    Spirits of salts, available from any hardware store.
    Try it on a test piece first though.

     Zinc and zincalume are two different animals, I think the replacement is prolly zincalume, so the acid wont work so good.

    Try Vinegar but don't leave it on forever, wash it off & flush it well 'cos it is an acid.

    You could also try rubbing some clay over it in a random way & leave it for a couple of days & wash it off.

    Anything you do will damage the surface & shorten the life of it, if you wait long enough, it will blend in eventually.

    I hope it isn't zincalume because if it is the rain running off it will send the roof rusty.
