    Default Blackbutt Decking

    Hi guys,

We are going to install a covered blackbutt deck. Timber from these guys.

Barwon Timber Blackbutt decking - the best of the blonde decks - Barwon Timber

Was wondering if i want to maintain the original look of the timber, matte and light colored. Which oil should i use? I would assume water based ones will be better.

Also do i need to let the deck sit for a few weeks first before oiling it?

    Thanks.

That link says they will treat both sides (for a price) with CD50, which is a pretty good product, I think.

Yeah, i use cutek extreme / cd50 on my blackbutt deck and it seems to work well. Although i added quite a lot of pigment to mine to darken it.

The blackbutt will darken with age regardless/go an amber colour and will go grey if a clear oil is used just like any other timber if it is exposed to direct sunlight/for long enough.

I would apply the oil immediately and lay the deck immediately. I think the benefits of acclimatisation are outweighed by the difficulty in working with bent, bowed, twisted decking timber.
