    Hi all

    We just had a small wall taken out and the builders put a new plank in the gap in the floor (it's a 60s house with no floorboards where the wall was).

    Anyway I now have to patch up the gap and have some "congoleum" spare lino the previous owners left in the garage. A quick web search indicates it may have asbestos in the backing so I will be careful not to put fibres around.

    I went to the local hardware and they sold me some Selley's kwik grip to glue it down and acrylic gap filler for the cracks. Does this sound right or is there a better product?

    Also is there some tape I can put over the join so water won't go in when I mop the floor or do I just try and join them as well as possible (the old lino isn't very flat after 40 years)?

    We also have some scratches in the floor which I am keen to patch up a bit.

    Any suggestions very welcome.

    The glue and filler sounds ok, with the old lino can you lever up the edge slightly, clean it up and glue that down first, weight it down if needed. Then add your new patch and fill the joint with the filler.
