G'day Folks

I'm planning on ripping up our damaged slate floor (about 70m2) and replacing with solid timber floor. I planned on using Jarrah, however on arriving home with my sample piece to show the other half it was explained to me that the strong red tint to the Jarrah would clash with a lot of our furniture/colour schemes. I live in Perth and plan on laying the floor myself and getting a professional to sand and polish (sounds even worse than bloody painting). Our aim is for a dark 'sexy' (not my words) looking floor. I still like the idea of using a feature grade Jarrah to get a rustic look and have a hard floor, but only if it's possible to stain/polish it to eliminate most of the 'redness'.

Part of my reason for using Jarrah is being in WA this seems the cheapest and most logical timber for my situation. If you have any suggestions of other timbers that would suit please let me know. Also if anybody knows of any good cheap suppliers of Jarrah or any other suitable timbers in Perth I'd love to know.
