I have a question and I hope someone can solve my curiosity. My electrician has run 2.5mm2 cable throughout the new section (even for the lighting circuit) of my Industrial workshop in keeping with the existing cabling.

2 new Power circuits & 1 new Light circuit. He is coming back this weekend to finish off the job. When I asked him what amperage circuit breaker he would be putting onto the lights he said it could take 20A but will probably drop it down to 16A. There is only 4 Trough Lights on that circuit (total 8 fluros @36 watt each...288 watts...draw approx 1 amp I think).

My question...Is it a balancing act to get as high as amperage breaker that is still less than the rating of the cable? Why not put in an 8A or 10A which still seems to be adequate for the draw from these lights?
