Exclamation Installing a Englefield Shower Unit

Hi peoples I was just wondering if any of you have installed one of these units, It looks like the wife wants to buy the following http://www.englefield.com/catalog/pr...?product=89523 1200x900 anyway beside my wallet being in total pain, is there anything I should be aware of?

The unit is going into the same place as the old so it looks like the only thing that will need to be moved is the waste, the old shower that was only 5 years old was leaking as it was never done right to start with and has cause a few problems that I have now fixed (water damage to the floor walls etc).

we will be using the acrylic walls so no tiling required in the shower.

I am replacing the walls with cement sheeting but should I still waterproof the walls just in case or just the floor, not sure on that part I guess it cant hurt in the long run but will it be required, also what type on adhesive should be used.

It also says on the site that the bases don't need to checked in so I guess thats a plus ?

    Thanks in advance, Sean

Smile Installing a Englefield Shower Unit

If you haven't already committed yourself to the Englefield unit, check out some of the other brands. I just installed a Marbletrend Boston corner 1000mm unit and the adhesive was supplied and the one piece 3mm skin just needed to be braced overnight. The base is self-supporting so a bit of waterproof adhesive does the job. So far our unit is fine. They are a bit pricey alright but I managed to get this one through Mitre 10 under $1200.

    Cheers

Hi Frank thanks for you reply,
Should the shower base be fixed to the floor and tiled around and if so should I just glue it to the floor or nail down the floor tile backing first then the base to that?
Or should I tile the whole floor and put the base on? thats the way the lady at Mitre 10 thought it should be done but I am a bit skeptical because she was not to sure of herself?

    Thx Willy

My base is self-supporting & weighed a ton. I just put a bead of wet area adhesive around the bottom of it . I just put mine on the tile underlay and I'll tile up to it. Mine's up and running now and it's great.
    Good Luck

WillyInBris, I installed an Engelfield shower last year, and it has got to be the easiest and best to do. You have to make certain that everything is absolutely square and plumb , then install the base on a slurry of cement, again checking square and level. When thats dry install the acrylic wall sheet, starting in the corner and working out, as per instruction booklet. Use the supplied adhesive. Its best of course to have a dry run to test the fit of the tap hole and everything else. The sheet actually sits about 5mm above the base and does NOT have a bead of silicon around the front. The bead is hidden behind and on top of the base lip, therefore there is no "mould line" ever. We just used water resistant gyprock, as for the rest of the bathroom. According to the guys at Boral that is enough. Also, put down the tiles first and then install the base on top. I usually use the tiles that are chipped etc for this, as you won't be able to see it later. This is just to support the base, so you don't need to tile completely, as any gaps will be taken care of with the cement slurry. Hope all this makes sense. cheers Peter
