    Question spraying stain/laquer on timber

    Hi,
This is the best web site i have found and my first thread on woodwork forum, I would like to know what spray system is best to apply a product such as a combined stain varnish onto a timber cabinet i have just completed. The spraying process needs to be performed in my double garage. Price needs to be reasonable.

Um, the cheapest would be a spray can and the result would most likely look cheap as well.

You could also look at a compressor -spray system.

I really do not know much about this subject at all.

Perhaps a search here on spray lacquer or vanish may be of assistance to you.

    cheers

You're very unlikely to get a good looking job with varnish stain.

You'd be better off to use an oil base stain, slop it on fast & even with a big brush or spraygun then immediately wipe it off with a cotton rag.

When it dries give it a clear coat.
You can apply polyurethane with a piece of (lint free) cotton folded into a pad, or with a spraygun, or a spray can.
Or you can apply a shellac finish in much the same way.

Thanks Bob and Wendy, maybe if i supplied more info others may be able to give some guidance. The timber used in the construction of the cabinet is pine and the stain/varnish combination product is suitable to provide a uniform stained colour. However application with a brush is too time comsuming, my thoughs are that i need a compressor and spray gun.
need to know what size of compressor (best brand for home use), and what type and brand of spray gun. Price of equipment will also need to be considered.

If it is a one off job, couldn't you hire what you need? Then you will get good quality.
