!00 year old Jacaranda
This bowl is made from a one hundred year old Jacaranda tree, located in the Gold Coast hinterland, hence its relatively dark honey colour. The tree was planted, amongst many others, by early settlers to line a long driveway to the homestead. The property is now used as a wedding reception venue that provides a spectacular purple entry when in bloom. Unfortunately during a massive storm the tree was blown over and I was given the opportunity to salvage some of the timber.
I rough turned the piece of timber to shape and then left to dry for 2 years, but the center still seemed not completely dry. It is 460mm diameter and 90mm deep, finished to 1500 then I coated with Kunos Oil.
