    Default Awtex 2017

I got home from Melbourne this afternoon, just in time for smoko. Those that know me would know that that is 3:00pm. This year I sent three pieces, two won their section and one was awarded "Best in Show". The vase was third. Some pictures of the entries.

This was the "Best in Show" made from red cedar with white cedar 'flowers' about 325mm diameter.

This one was best "Lidded container" made from callophylum with the inserts made from red cedar.

The vase that was awarded a third place, made from red cedar with the patterned panel in cedar and silver ash. This vase is oval, not round, with the top and bottom oval as well. I used a shop made "chuck", based on the details in one of David Springett's books. Actually built four to iron out some of the problems.

I can only sit and wonder how you achieve such results.

Beautiful as usual mate , congratulations

Some what surprised at the vase only coming in as 3rd. I am aware how hard it is to turn something oval, the work involved doing that one, so the level of complexity is off the roof. Obviously just not to judges taste
