    Hi Mike

I've never bleached a piece, but I found a few paragraphs on bleaching in an article in the March April 1995 edition of Australian Woodworker. ("It's all in the Finish" by Noel Cole, pp17-19)

In essence the article says bleaching is used to achieve a paler or more even colour or to even up the colour of different pieces of timber. Hydrogen peroxide, ammonia and oxalic acid (which is highly toxic) are some of the chemicals associated with bleaching. The article goes on to provide warnings about using this stuff.

The article then suggests that although you can make up your own bleach solution it is usually more convenient to obtain a proprietary brand. These are generally marketed as a two container pack and the article suggests you read the instructions very carefully.

Hope this isn't stuff you already know.

    Regards

    Jacko

    Thumbs up

    Hi Jacko,
    Thanks for the help.
Have you got any ideas where I can get a copy of the March April 1995 edition of Australian Woodworker. I live and work in Gemany so it's a little bit of a problem for me. Is this article somewhere on the internet? or could you, or somebody else give me a contact to the magazine?
