    Default Coloured wax/shellac stick?

In the following video the turner is applying some kind of coloured wax stick to the toys - guessing it also has shellac in it - has anyone come across a recipe for this stuff? Or able to confirm what it actually is?

have found some more information - the only express instructions I have found are this ...
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nznexGoJ94I&t=3s

basically button lac plus colour. I have seen turmeric and indigo referenced as natural/traditional options.

Also these descriptions which use non-english names
    Lacquerware: Kutch, Gujarat - Loveknits
Budni laquer craft, Wood turning, Madhya Pradesh, India | Gaatha . गाथा ~ handicrafts

In addition spent a lot of time looking at how lac bangles are made: essentially you take a core made from a natural gum/resin that is melted and mixed with a powder (translation issue again to determine the exact ingredients) for part A. Part B is again melted button lac plus colour. You then form a worm of part A heat up the coloured lac and just apply some of the melted part B on the outside of part A - repeat till you have it covered in colour and then roll out/stretch.

So you basically land up with resin/flour core surrounded by a thin layer of coloured lac.

Based on all the above it seems the sticks used in the turning are simply button lac plus colour ... time for some experimenting

    cheers

Any reason why a regular crayon would not work?
