No ist very stabel. the bowl isent that large so no problems there...
I actually know exactly what my problem is. I loose concentration during the turning process and thats what costs me on the error side. I focus more on the molding an shaping than on what i do with my tool....
I power sand i my own shop. But that´s not an option i our club..Rasmus

Here are a couple of offerings.
The first piece is a fluted Red Cedar bowl, approx 300mm in diameter. Red cedar carves very well. Finish in in lacquer. I was rushing when doing the photos so I didn't notice that there was a "dusty" finger print in one of the flutes, need to photoshop that out.
The second piece is a large Hoop Pine pot/bowl approx 450mm id diameter. It was a poor piece of wood saved from my brother in law's wood pile, several cracks that need too much CA glue but it seems to have come up quite well. Finish is a Tung Oil based product.
The third piece is from the largest mistletoe growth I've seen. It was growing in some sort of Gum. Size is approx 300mm high. Again lots of CA to stop the piece from coming apart , the sap rings were quite suspect.

Good to see your work as always.
The Cedar bowl is spekky. Lovely dynamic form. What kind of varnish?
The Hoop Pine wood is a dead spit for some Norfolk Pine pieces I've seen (and done). Complete with bluestain ;-}
The Mistletoe has some lovely figure. The form leaves me cold though. The line is awkward IMHO partic with the heavy rim. Prefer a more acorn shape and a lady-like lip.
Thanks for posting.Cheers, Ern

All good, BUT.... I like the outside curve to change.
If you ignore the flutes in the 2nd one & look at the basic shape, it is more pleasing to the eye that the outline of the 1st or the 3rd.
I like the lip on the 3rd one but think it would be better if the shape under the the lip was more like the 2nd one.
My opinion.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Another two pieces that I finished earlier this week.
First one (two photos) is a end grain Hoop pine bowl, some more of that firewood from my brother in law's. Finish is lacquer and size is approx 350mm in diameter.
The second is a piece that I started abut 2-3 years ago and sat on the shelf awaiting completion. It's made from some Northern Cypress pine with pyrographised leaves. The inside is copper leafed. Size is approx 300mm high. The photo could be better, no excuse but was rushed at the time.
All comments welcome - Peter

Returned to turning
Hi.
I am a new member here...
Started turning when I was just a kid, and turned wood in many years,
but left the turning... and dont know why.
Just started again after 27 years, and my new lathe arrived yesterday.
This morning I turned this litte thing... three piceses of walnut and and a sheet of acryllic plate glued togehter... and turned. And the acrylic was just a test.
Finish - sandend with 600 and pollished with natural bees wax.
Unfortunat the thing got stained with at pair of rain drops...
Cheers
Kaj

I must admit to being somewhat surprised at some of the comments about the "first bowl" even though a critique was requested. It appears to me that it would be more constructive to make helpful suggestions and forget about the actual criticism IMHO of course. Design is a subjective thing.
One could be in a lot of trouble if asked to honestly critique some lady's new baby in the manner observed here.
HOWEVER!! I log on to several forums and find this one by far the most honest, informative and friendly. I guess if one does not want the full "critique" then don't ask for it eh?
