Electronic variable speed - no torque/power
I'm trying to help a mate.
He has an old Woodfasr lathe fitted with an after market vfd (evs?) Speed control.
Recently it has lost power, eg you can vary the speed up/down, but at all speeds there is no power, you can't even do light sanding. The belt is not slipping.
I have no idea for fault finding. There is some paperwork from installation, but it is all gibberish to me.
Would this fault be an adjustment in the vfd?
If it is , is this something a layman could adjust.
Do we need a sparky, hopefully one with sound knowledge of VFDs.
I can get details of the motor, connections and VFD information.
Just looking for possible faults and fault finding tips at the moment.
Thanks in advance
Lyle

Check that the pulleys are firmly connected to the shafts
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Cool. Wilco..
Motor shafts to pulley might be a tad difficult due to access. But a good call, to check.
I can hold the Motor pulley and can't turn the job in the chuck. So the drive belt is OK.
Thanks

We've checked the pulleys.
They're locked solid with a keyway and grub screw.
Looking now to try a reset....
No idea how, but Looking Looking....

I would suggest you post this on the Metal Work Forum ( electricals Section) there are members over there that know a lot about VFD's, maybe someone who is close to you and can have a look.

Sounds like a setting may have been changed as you say this is a recent development. My system is a FoLinn BD600 and there are torque settings, one of which is for "Digital setting of torque upper limit in speed control mode" (F03.10 for my one). That allows for torque settings ranging from 0% to 200%, with default setting being 150%. A setting in the lower range would result in very little torque (or even none at all). Any reference to such a setting in your manual?
Good luck,
Gary

I couldn't move this to the metalworking site....
The vfd is a Lenze 8200SHBO199 .
I've spoken to the tech support in Melbourne.
They're suggesting a change to a/some parameters may have been caused by a spike during a recent storm.
I've got to take photos of all connections, paperwork etc, send to them and they may be able to help.
Failing that, pulling out and send to them and see what is wrong. (Costly, as they are in Melbourne).
So something to try.

If you are not a member of Metalwork Forums you would have to copy your post, join MWF then post it on that site.
You can't post in the Metalwork Forums section on this forum as it is only an RSS feed from the real MWF.

That looks to be a very nice VFD.
Full functionality and a very concise manual.
See what the Lenze guys have to say, but I would first check that the motor details are still entered correctly C0087 - C0091, and run an auto calibration/detection for the calculated parameters C0148.
The manual is available online. Those were the droids I was looking for.

Are you speaking English....
I think we've downloaded the correct manual but I still have no idea of how to look at those (parameters).
There are two LEDs, green and red. They seem ok. Not flashing etc to indicate faults. Eg solid green when running.
The Lenze people in Melbourne I've been talking to,are as helpful as they can.... but.
Send to us and we'll check and repair.
But that means all the difficulties in removal shipping and refitting costs etc.
Like you they're thinking a parameter has been corrupted.
But I can't figure out how to look at/see them.
I was hoping a manual like
Step 1 press button x
Step 2 etc.

Hi Lyle
I have a Lenze Vfd which I fitted to my wood lathe and programmed. It was sometime ago but I basically understand how vfds function and are programed. Where are you located? I may be able to assist with programming the parameters

Yep Australia is a big place.
Manuals for VFD's aren't intended to be used by DIYer's, more like experienced and qualified tradesmen, and typically your more knowledgable higher skilled tradesmen.
Note to self - now remember to .... run .... duck ...... and weave .... Ouch that hurt!
Hopefully Ron can talk you through it ... isn't modern communications great.Mobyturns

First thing I would do is try and run the VFD on another motor.
