    Talking Greg Wards Wood Movement

Recently got some nice Rosewood off Greg Ward for a special job I have to do.

After cutting them into rounds they were stored flat and with the weather as its been there has been some movement. More of the 14" dia one than the 18" while the 10" is fine.

Greg assure me the Rosewood has been down quite some time and stored well it is dry and well seasoned.

    Hi Ray
Easy fixed, take the offending piece outside and drop it on the lawn with the cup side down on the grass. Leave it there until it comes back. Sometimes it will only take an hour or so other times it may take a day or two. I find it helps if the sun is out to heat up the upper surface it works quicker. Heres one I prepared earlier. This was the back shelf for the coffee shop. Over nighter.

Ps. This is often a problem with the wider slabs. You can store it perfectly flat and dry, get it out to use it and leave it on the bench over night and woof. Usualy once you have bought it back, worked it and get some finish on it it will stay put.

if all three circles were cut from the same or similar boards I'd be inclined to blame stress relief rather than moisture

Nice looking pieces though Ray. Hope they work out okay for you. Hope we get to see what you make with them

Mark could work but with the wood being so dry and ground so damp I am not sure although maybe worth a try.

I think Ian is right stress relief.

The original timber below and marked out the original plan was 18" piece at the top and smaller piece for the 14". I decided when I saw how close some wood damage was to the edge of the 18"on the large bit to change my choice. Greg had also thought along the original way when he selected it, he did choose some real nice wood for me regardless. My workshop smells so nice.

John it is to be a 3 tier cake sandwich stand for a neighbour.

Trust me, throw it on the lawn tomorrow, if its hot and sunny it will most likly be flat in a few hours. Keep an eye on it because it can go too far the other way. If it does just turn it over and let it go back a bit. That slab in the photo was as dry as any chip.

    Claw Hama is right.

It's an old tried but true method.

It will most likely pull a bit if you remove centre as in making a platter.

    Cheers

Geez Ray, all these practical replies.

I'll help you by removing all the wood that is over pen blank size, so you don't have any worries

Thanks gents will give it a go today very overcast. but warm.

Pat I know my wood is safe because your at WORK (use of 4 lettered word) besides that would mean you'd be taking back some nice bits you gave me that are larger than pen size.

Thanks guys sat on the lawn for a couple of hours soaked in a bit of moisture and has slowly come back a little. Its now back in shed as its drizzling to much. Will give it another go later.
