    Default Help with lathe headstock

Hi I am new here and to wood turning so any help is greatly appreciated.

I have brought a second hand lathe no info or make, it came with a small 4 jaw chuck which has been fine up until now. I removed the chuck to find out what size drive centre i needed but the only thing i can see is a threaded section that held the chuck. Are there drive centres available that will screw onto a thread? i have only found those that are inserted. I have attached a photos.
    Thanks

I don't know of a drive center that will screw onto the drive spindle but you can get one that will go in a chuck .

Hi and welcome to the forum.
It looks like the GMC lathe. Was also sold under plenty other brand names too. Not having a morse taper to take fittings like drive centers is one of it's limitations. They did come with a screw on drive so an old one would be a good find. Other option is make a drive and clamp it in your chuck. Some ideas.

With these chinese lathes some are prc mainland and others tiawan. They look the same but the thread is ever so different. Unless you get the right spur nut your item wont run true (been there done that).

Thanks for all the quick replies. I will look into getting a centre that can be held by my chuck (didn't know about that).
    Thanks again.

Hi and welcome to the Forum. Could you PLEASE amend your location to a town, suburb or at least a state, it makes it difficult, if you have a problem and someone offers to help, only to find out that you're the other side of Australia.
