Default heres a little project I have going at present

Camphor Laurel Vase with open spirals, nothing to flash in the timber dept.So a few spirals should add some interest to the vase. I have left the base of the spirals fairly thick at this point probably 10x20 mm so give so strength when I carve the individual spirals. The darker colour on the inside is round about what the finish well be.

Very nice. Did you do the slots by hand or using some sort of jig with a router? If the later, it would be interesting to see the jig.

I mark out my spirals and cut them by hand in this case a small air powered sabre saw and finished by hand

Very nice indeed certainly a talking point.
Shame you could not finish so that the outside stays the lighter colour as it looks great with the two contrasting

    Hughie,

that brings something new to your spirals.

And to continue throwing ideas around, could you steam the bases of the and twist the petals outwards - just spitballing here you realise.

    Hi Hughie and all,
Great looking shape and the evolving spirals are very impressive.

    Default oiled and done

Oiled and done, just letting the oil dry before buffing 23cm x 19cm or 7.5" x 9" Camphor Laurel

Skew do it in soft wood. I did something similar in Blue Gum from up your way. Darn it was hard yakka about 30 hrs, finishing too forever.
