Huon pine bowl off.
Had the chance to turn up 3 huon bowls in the last couple of days. 2 regular ones and 1 natural edged number.
First bowl is 280mm x 80mm,

Second one is 320 x 90,

Natural edge one is 285 x 130mm,

Also got round to putting some oil on the Rustic Goblet from previous thread.

You can smell the workshop from half a mile off at the moment.

Three nice looking bowls there AB. I particularly like the natural edge, the contrast works with the pale colour of the Huon.

I went out to go to the hardware shop and the post office after turning the bowls. At the hardware shop where I bought some sandpaper the girl behind the register said to me "you working huon?". She caught me by surprise and I was not sure exactly what she meant because I live near Huonville and the Huon Valley. She could see my hesitation and then said with a smile "I can smell the huon pine, it's such a nice smell".
Next at the post office I had a box to pick up from Timberbits, it had their stickers all over it giving away the fact it contained something to do with woodwork. The Lady behind the counter commented while handing the box over, "Gee, this box even smells like woodwork!". I said, the smell is not on the box it is on me..it's huon pine. It was a memorable outing.

Hi Artfull,
Huon does have a unusual background fragrance not unlike a faint decomposing citrus smell,up her when you turn off the lathe the fruit flys are all over it every time you stop until you re-start the lathe. (not unpleasant I used to have a large mandarin tree by the shed and the smell is very much the same as the over ripe fruit).
