I give up - what is it?
This was in a box of bits & pieces that came with my Woodfast lathe. It's probably something simple (like me) but it's got me stumped. Fits straight onto the spindle and is 50mm diameter and 40mm deep to the start of the thread. The whole lot turned out to be a great buy - bearings like new, head stock and tail stock line up perfectly, even with the original Woodfast chuck and spanners. And it now has a brand new motor and VFD, so all I need is to know what the mystery item is so I can sleep nights.

I know what’s it’s for but can’t remember what it’s called.
The idea is to turn a spigot just a smidge bigger than the internal diameter and hammer the timber into it.Cheers

It's a cup chuck isn't it?

Thanks. My first guess was a cup chuck, but it looked too deep. Makes sense to turn a spigot just oversize, or tapered, and hammer it in. Like all the Woodfast bits I scored, it's solid!

Very handy the o'le cup chuck , don't make the taper to steep.
I prefer to hammer in blank off the lathe.Turning round since 1992

Add a rubber seal and use it to pull a vacuum for holding work.

Cup chuck or jam chuck.
They are annoying as hell.
