Identify this wood
Can anyone please identify this wood, I've had it lying around for 12 years and have lost track of it's identity. This is just the off cut from the blank I'm about to turn a small bowl from.
Thanks

My guess would be Olive too, but you should be able to smell it

Even from "Up Yonder", I can see it's Olive. It can be beautiful, and that piece looks like it will. I found it to clog sandpaper when sanding, but otherwise, a pleasure to turn.......... Jerry (in Tucson) USA

Olive or robinia .As Neil said , if olive ,you will be able to tell the difference when you turn it .Both are fantastic timbers but olive is more incline to have small cracks in it which need to be filled .

I'm not familiar with an olive smell, having worked with paint all my life my sense of smell is not good but my wife thought it might have smelt faintly of olive.

Paul39, The offcut is way to small for tool handles as the finished bowl is only 170mm

The Olive bowl is absolutely beautiful. The simple design of the bowl offsets the intricate figure.
I had in mind a knife handle or file handle for the off cut. There might even be enough for a parting tool handle. Too pretty to burn.So much timber, so little time.
