    Default Turning Iron Bark

    Hi all,
I have been given an Iron Bark post that has the potential to become a very nice lamp stand. The only problem is it's turnability. Everything I have read indicates it is a very tool unfriendly substance and it's sheer weight makes me wonder if the lathe will cope (MC900). Has anybody turned it? General comments?
    Cheers
    Anthony

Anthony, no problems turning Ironbark, there are a hell of a lot worse timbers than Ironbark. I have been turning a few Ironbark bowls lately and find it a lot kinder than other timbers. Don't know the size of your fence post, but if you are making a table lamp (say 350x 100)I don't think you will have any problems.
    Cheers

I turned a bit of ironbark a while ago, and it cut nicely. Keep tools sharp and it isn't bad at all.
