    Default King of Clubs.

It has been many years since I made one of these but a commission for one has kicked the ball rolling again and there are a few on the production line now.
This one measures 107 cm long and 30 cm wide.
The handle is huon pine and the spikes are Tasmanian blackwood with some figuring .
Spikes are finished with a satin estapol, while the handle has been oiled with scandanavian oil on the parts that have a turned/machined surface. Where the handle has the natural weathered finish I have left that un-finished as the oil tends to darken that too much and I much prefer the weathered silvery look that time has given it.
Many years ago (before 9-11) a bloke bought one of these to give his uncle as a wedding present and he was gob smacked the folks at Hobart airport would not let him take it on board as carry on luggage.

That is a really playful, yet menacing sculpture. I like it!

I had a chuckle when I looked at the pics, then the location description.

    Just a thought.
The Blackwood spikes could be fumed with ammonia.
Would make them very much darker.

That is really innovative - top marks!

What was the diameter of the log/stick used?

Thanks for the kind comments Cava. Unfortunately that club has gone to it's new owner so cannot give you the precise diameter of the log used.
Also I can't find my book, "Guidelines and design principles for cave man clubs" by Gronk Gruntley.
As a general rule of thumb though, just make them to look good.
