No, no, no. You wouldn't believe it, another maker of nice file handles. I'll have to fall on the axe (blunt side up; I'm just a fool, not an idiot ).

I suppose I could make a handle as part of the healing process......

Pete there is still plenty here for you when you pop in. I couldn't turn all the offcuts in the factory even if I tried to.
This piece of blackbutt was particularly nice. I had set it aside as soon as I got the lathe as I knew the fiddleback would be lovely in whatever I turned it into.

Back at the lathe again after a few hectic months of working long hours to get jobs done.

We were doing a really trick walk in robe for a client and dad proposed that I turn up some clothes pegs. Now this job is an open polyurethane wardrobe with thickened up edges, dovetailed western red cedar drawers left raw for smell and insect repellant properties and drawer fronts coated in a uv stabilized clear poly, timber hanging rails with custom adjustable ends.

Here is a photo of the timber dowel that I used for the hanging rail and I used the offcuts to make the pegs.

Pegs installed. They were all a tight fit with a little bit of pva to make sure they never come out.

Thanks Dave. Yer they were not to bad. Only had trouble getting the round ends the same.

Still trying to get that roll over and lift the back of the tool up at the same time action.

Was nice doing some repetition work. They took me about 16-18min each thats fully sanded to 400.
I didn't think that was to bad.

That's good going. Mine took me 30 minutes each sanded to 600. Another grit is not worth 12 minutes lol.

You will find some timbers work better than others. Will be interested to hear your observations o different timbers over time and what tool gets a better finish

    Nice one Dirk .
And it's kind of great when a "hobby" tool.
Ends up paying for it self.
Only few hundred more ,and I reckon you would have paid for the lathe and bit more .[emoji3]

The first one is easy but his brothers are the test. You need to be making "twins" (being identical). This is where the skill comes in. Don't worry after more than 30 years of hobby wood turning its still a challenge. You have to hope that after you have done a run of a particular shape that they don't end up too close to each other to high light the "unidenticalness".

You have done a good job just the same!!
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

Thanks for all the kind words. I must say they were not to bad and it went fast as they were small (seen part of pegs being only 55mm long).

It was cut out of tazzy oak dowel so i didnt have to rough them down from anything which would add a few min aswell. I was surprised that my roughing gouge cut as nice as my spindle gouge. I need to sharpen my parting tool as that was making a mess of it abit.

So the next part of the project was making a cone shape for the ends of a hanging rail. (To look abit boaty)
This would then be attached to a bulkhead above the drawer units that we made.

Hardest part about this was finding a "log" large enough.

    Found it

    Mounted on the lathe

Was testing the maximum's of my lathe. Couldn't fit the tool rest underneath the log so had to spin the outrigger around and use that till I got it to a rough shape.

To shape and had a play on putting a bead at the end. Decided that was abit much.

Then took it off the lathe and cut it in half with the chainsaw and cleaned it up to sit flat. Drilled a 30mm hole in each end for the rail.

Installed on bulkhead. Client was over the moon.

Anybody know where to get a charcoal colour turning smock? I definitely need one and I want it company colour hahaha.

    Cheers
    Dirk.
