Cool mate looks like Blackwood. I just use a Sharpie to mark the bottom of the tenon when rough turning, just date of turning and timber type

And very nice too Smife. Have you noticed that you are saying "jeez, what was that wood?" more often as the days rip by? I absolutely need to label w.i.p. but do I? Nup.

How hard was the timber?? To me it looks as if it could be white cedar.

I think it has turned out really well. Looks very much a balanced piece internally and externally.

Hmm Artme may be on to something looking at the sapwood. White Cedar is a heavy timber, well a lot more heavy then normal cedars anyway. It can contain a lot of silica too, so can appear very hard depending on where it grows

Nice job, slim simple shape. This type of bowl needs a lot of patience and hand work, you have done well. I to think it looks like white cedar.

    Smiife,

That is beautiful. Nice graceful shape and nice figure of the wood.

I have stuff wrapped in newspapers and sitting on shelves all around the shed and house. It is nice to discover something dry enough to finish.
So much timber, so little time.

Looking good, I was going to call it Sally wattle,or at least some sort of wattle.
as far as labeling I'm slack most of the time. But my memory is still ok with most of my collection. Mainly label rare bits I get.
