Nova 3000
Hi all, I recently purchased my first lathe, a Nova 3000, it was in good condition and I managed to get in a few hours of turning. Last week I broke the drive belt and now I need in instructions as to how to replace it. There is no information in the manual and I couldn't find anything on the internet. I have contacted Tecknatool and received a reply from Tecknatool U.S.A., the directions they gave me was for a different lathe and I'm not prepared to follow the instructions given as they do not match my lathe. Can anyone help please. Also is there somewhere I can purchase new belts, I have one spare but I'd like to have another on hand. Thyanks in advance.

I have a 3000 from the early 90's that I bought for my dad and eventually inherited. There were two kind of motor mounts that I know of. Mine is like a pivoting shelf that a motor with a base or foot mount is bolted to. The second is a face or flange mount. I pull the motor towards me/headstock and slip the belt off the end of the pulley and then the headstock pulley through the top cover. Installing is the reverse. It only takes a few minutes. I don't see why either type would be different. The belt in the lathe is a Gates Micro-V 340J, five rib belt, 610mm long. I have a couple spares that are another brand that are 330J, a bit shorter, that fit as well.
I bought the spares off an eBay seller that turned out to be West Coast Belts in the USA. They sent me a 4 rib belt that I had to return to get the 5 rib belt. Nova used both types. If you are buying from other companies make sure it is the right length and rib count. There must be an Aussie source for them.

Thank you, I've tried Repco but their belts are too long, I'll keep trying.

A bearing supply company will have one or will be able to get one in within a day or so. They are relatively common belts used in industry.

Interesting that they call for a 6 rib belt that only engages 5 grooves except for the smallest diameter where all 6 ribs are engaged. I guess after I go through the three 5 rib belts I have I'll get the wider belts. The instructions also illustrate the face mount I mentioned. I'll print the manual and keep it with my lathe as it is relevant to mine, the manual long gone. Thanks.

Hi, I also have the 3000 and bought it new in the 90's. I found it better to remove the red cover and then changing becomes easy. My lathe has the motor that mounts on the plate. Im also needing a new belt and the last one I bought was off Amazon from the US. Can you tell me the source in OZ that you have found. Thanks
