Photos from this year's Q-Turn
Just got back from Q-Turn 2017. Great weekend had by all with relatively warmer weather for this time of year. A few photos of the turners, the display table of finished work, including the mystery wood projects (everyone gets a piece of wood and must something from it - winner pocked by votes and wins bragging rights and a bag of lollies )

Here's what I turned. A large pepper grinder from some very old Red Mallee cast in bright green mica, a small pepper grinder from Ooline cast in swirling "autumn" coloured micas, both using epoxy resin. Finally my entry into the mystery wood comp, 6 mini goblets and a wine karaffe on a small table, all contained in a tube to ensure they are not lost or damaged. Five cent piece for scale

neil, the timber was tipuana, it comes from south america, is a weed, has yellow flowers and a winged seed.

Thanks Jim. I've found Tipuana tipu comes from South Africa and also known as Rosewood that explains why it turned so well.
Unfortunately I can't find the miniature work, must have fallen on the floor, so probably now amongst the shavings in the bin or on the ground some where around the shedNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new
