A raintree bowl
A simple small bowl made from raintree. It measures 190mm x 75mm deep. The timber was about 35 years old and was surprisingly brittle. This stuff is notorious for it's acrid dust, making breathing protection necessary. Finished with ubeaut's Aussie oil to give a low sheen finish. The feature near the rim was made with a Wagner texturing tool and lightly coloured with a felt tip pen.

Back in the late 70's (when I lived in Darwin) I made two conference tables from Raintree timber. One table was for the new NT government and to be used in the Cabinet Room and the second table was for Tammy Fraser's (ex Prime Minister Mals wife) Australiana collection in Canberra. The tree itself was in growing in the Darwin Botanical Gardens and was a victim of Cyclone Tracy.
