Resin Fun
G,day
Been doing a bit of hybrid casting lately .The first three are WA banksia cone screwtop boxes . The forth is a blackbut burl screwtop box .5 and 6 are a cotonyaster screwtop box with gumnuts .
7 and 8 are a bowl with sheoak cones .The gumnut box and sheoak bowl are inspired by Brenden Stemp's work .
The first is my favourite . I call it my jaguar box .I use a dental pick and compressed air to remove the seeds from the cone and I discovered that in this case , the air also removed the surrounding material so that the seed casing rim was about 1mm proud of the surface.
The resin is epoxy and the finish is polyurathane .
Comments welcome.

Thanks for the comments.
Artfull bodger -The resin is quite hard to turn although you can use any sharp tool . I mostly use a carbide tool to rough to shape and a negative rake scraper to finish off .I mostly power sand to 400 . Finishing with polyurathane , there is no need to go any finer.
Smiife - It is beautiful for thread cutting .The banksia threads pretty well too after saturating with CA glue .
