Looks good so far. As experienced as you are, I expect you know to do a wrap or three of tape around the rim and run some CA glue in the cracks.
It would not do well to have 1/4 of a platter in the face.So much timber, so little time.

Hi kidbee, yeah , sorry about the delay in replying ,
I turned the top and started pyrographing the top
Then .......oooppppsss dropped it on the concrete floor
snapped the side white part right off
Hi paul , as explained to kidbee , while pyroing the cracks got worse
more ca glue , then ran out of ca , then dropped on the floor , It now
lives under the bench untill It behaves It, s self
Hi brainstrust , the blank was 440mm wide , the round piece
Is about 410mm now I think, not sure It will survive , lots of cracks
I spent 2 afternoons pyroing this £!%=#; thing and am not a happy camper
right now !!Cheers smiife

Urban Dictionary
#pyroing. Top Definition. pyro. To post excessively in a public forum, sharing more knowledge and experience than is humanly possible.
Seems appropriate

As an old retired photographer, I have to throw this in the pot. Pyro was one of the revived miracle developers in the 1950s.
