I made one, fun but a ton of sanding required. Got to do another one someday.

Anyone interested here is a set of free plans on the process. This is what i used.

The link works when I click on it but here is another link to access it:

    http://www.waterfront-woods.com/Arti...iralintro.html

Click on the line that says, "Hollow Spiral Candles Holders".

Here is the one I made. It is around 8" (203 mm) tall.

If you need any help Smiffy then give me a yell. I've done several now and they are 'interesting'!

Would yo believe hat right hand thread ones are more difficult than left hand thread ones . That's for real too and it's because when you drill out the spiral the drill is going with the grain on the left hand jobbie and against it with the right one! Not much more difficult, but a little bit.

Good fun if you go both ways ducky

I did some egg cus too for a comp in a U.K. forum. The only mention they got was that they would be too difficult to clean. That wasn't mentioned in the brief..

I forgot to say that I drilled the holes with a Forstner bit, but make sure you don't use too bigger one. It looks OK until you come to do the the next and you will finish up with the spiral much too thin by the time it's samded down. To start the sanding and get most of the rough stuff out of the way I used a sanding drum in my Dremel and to get the spirals round a strip of abrasive gripped with 2 artery forceps, the locking kind. Otherwise I would not have had any finger prints or skin on my fingers at all!

    Default spiral candlesticks

    Hi guys,
Sorry to keep you all waiting so long
Saturday went by quickly no turning done,,,,, not happy

But i got a couple of hours today and did finish one
Told you i was a slow turner
Firstly once the spiral has been marked out just
follow the lines with a 15mm forstner bit in the
drill press with a V block clamped to the drill table
    as in the photo

Next sanding, sanding, sanding and then more sanding!!!

    Cheers smiife

    Smiife,

Would you share your technique for removing the wedges left by each adjacent forstner bore ?

Oh ... Not to mention the magic sander ??

Look in the bottom right hand corner of photos 4 and 6 - I believe I see a mechanical aid. Could this be the secret sanding weapon?
