    Default Sun Time

    My latest piece "Sun Time"
    11" D x 2" Thick, hand carved
    1/4 sawn Sapele

    Thank you Willy....I seem to get that kind of response. not usually on this site though I thought folks would have really liked this one as well....go figure.

    I had not opened this thread until tonight. I’m with Willy and like it also. Nice wood. Is it turned first and then hand carved?

    Thank you Kidbee Yes Turned then the sun rays carved then back on the lathe and the center ring was inset, it's Curly Maple dyed Black; the clock is inset as well. After that the piece was turned around in the jaws and the tenon was removed while cutting the access hole in the back. The whole project is 1/8" thick except where the carving was done that was 5/16" thick.
