Taps
Well guys, sad to report that I've gotten out of the turning business. Have sold all my turning gear to a guy whose on the board of the Wood Turning Center in Philly.
CFS, the left leg, lower back on the left side, and my left arm have conspired against me to inflict as much pain as possible!!! Being a lefty, the condition has left me in a lurch as my right arm really ain't trained to do too much.
It was sad to see all the stuff go after 30 years of a lot of enjoyment, and especially meeting a lot of great folks at the shows...will sorely miss all that.
Even though I am not a turner anymore, I'm hoping that you lot will allow me to stay with the forum - for harassment purposes, you know! and to keep you all on the straight and narrowCheers,
Ed

Ed having had CFS I know how and what your going through I had to stop all tool work energy and body just refused to even hang onto a spanner.
BUT hey look at me now its not the end of the world you'll be back at it before you know it and wanting the latest and greatest.
So no leaving here you have to much wisdom to offer, besides we need Yanks to poke fun at too.

Now for a bit of the aussie black humour - I spose this means you won't be joining the 2012 Aussie day pen swap
Seriously, I hope there is a right handed hobby you can take up
Get wellregards

I'm sorry to hear that Ed.
It would be very difficult for me if I had to give it up completely.
I don't think I could go cold turkey and stay out of prison for very long .
I've had some downtime that has kept me out of it for a few months
but having something chucked and ready to finish was always a part
of my recovery plan for myself.
Exploring the mini option seems like sound wisdom.
Vicmarc has a sit down machine on the market now, it tilts like the oneway.
I'm not sure what the specs are on it but it might be good therapy at times.

I've studied your work here and at your website and it's great .
You have a lot of experience and a good writing presence so I hope you stay around.
Best regards,

Not good news, but don't give up completely. Pens if you must, but also consider scroll saw work, band saw, etc.
You could also take a cue from Dale Chihuly (glass artist). When he lost an eye, he also lost binocular vision and couldn't do the work himself; now provides counsel to his juniors.
Anything beats daytime television.
