Hi all,

with my two upgrades to my lathes I added a Tacho and hall effect sensor, I had made lovely aluminium brackets for the sensors which looked fantastic
The problem I had was the readout was not displaying a constant number it would vary up and down 1000rpm, after a bit of investigation thinking the display could be faulty or maybe the sensor, as I had two setup I could see if the problem stayed with one particular component. The culprit turned out to be some electrical/magnetic interference with the metal bracket. I changed the location and mounted the sensor on a piece of black perspex and now is all perfect , a constant number displayed.

So if you plan to put a tacho on your machine make a plastic bracket for the sensor and you shouldn't have a problem
