Default Trouble Sourcing a Drive Belt

Hi all, I have a 1/2 hp lathe which needs a 540mm x 6mm round polyurethane drive belt but can't seem to find one locally. I'm in Tassie. Any ideas?

Thanks I'll check that out. Thought most washing machines would be a V belt.

You can buy them on ebay made to your specified length, I bought one not to long ago was about $25 from memory shipped from the US took about 3 weeks to arrive.

    Default This Might Work . . . .

Years ago when I faceted gemstones, the machine I used had a PU drive belt that was joined by melting the two butt ends together on a stove hotplate. You had to be quick, but it may get you out of trouble until you get a replacement belt.

Of course you will need the old belt or something similar from a belt drive washing machine or dryer.

    Good Luck!

I did try repairing the one that broke. I don't have a hot knife and tried using a candle. It melted fine but the join was weak. Maybe it was too hot
