    Default Urn

    I was asked by my nephew to make an urn for his Mums Mothers Day to take his Nan's ashes and Pa's ashes (when he passes), he supplied the timber which is Redgum. The outside was very lumpy, and as from Maplemans comments in another section of this Forum, I knew it was going to be fantastic inside. It's approx 400 high, 200 at the widest and 130 at the bottom, with a wall thickness of approx 20 mm, sanded to 600 and finish is waxed.
    I just got a phone call from him (14/5/17, 11.15 pm), and he passed it onto his Mum, who couldn't stop thanking me for the time and effort I put into it.

    Looks great .400mm is a pretty impressive size . Is it all hollowed out or just bored out ?

    Thanks for the compliments.
    It's hollowed out 20 mm wall thickness, I used an 80 mm Forstner bit to get in so far approx 350 mm then used a 60 mm on an extended shaft to get the extra distance, then used a Robert Sorby Gooseneck hollower on a special tool rest that I made some time ago to do the rest of it. Had to modify the home made spin sander to get right inside, it now about 20" long.
    The two photos are of the same urn, just used a flash on the brighter one. must remember that for next time.
