Vicmarc lathe owners heads-up
My 175 started ticking in the headstock last night. The indexing pin was fouling the pulley. On a roll I just shifted the pulley assembly inwards a bit and that stopped it.
This morning it started again so I put the brain into gear for a proper diagnosis.
What was happening was that the pin is threaded into the knurled knob and they were parting company.
Just needed tightening up with a squirt of Loctite for good measure.Cheers, Ern

I'll file that one away in case my Vicmarc starts ticking, rather than call the bomb squad.

I give thanks to the inventor of blue Loctite every morning - without it, my entire world would shake itself to pieces.
Glad to hear it was an easy fix. I've heard that Vicmarc lathes, like Rolls Royce cars, never break down (although they may "fail to proceed").

LOL.
This is my 2nd VL and first 'failure' minor though it is.
Yes, Loctite is my god. I used to ride and maintain old Brit motorbikes. 'nuff said. Apparently current Beemer two-wheelers need a drop or two of the blue as well.Cheers, Ern

Same thing happened to me (or my 175 at least) not so long ago. Can't even remember what I did to fix it but it worked.
This was the first thing that has gone awry with it in the 5+ years I've had it and it is my main work horse.

Ern if thats all the problems you have with the lathe then its a winner by anybodies standard. Glad you got it sorted with minimal drama.

Like Brendan (who sold me the lathe), this has been my first hiccup with it. It's a beaut bit of kit with high engineering standards. Can do tailstock boring accurately without fuss, just pushing up the tailstock with quill locked (compared with other brands I've used).
Cheers, Ern
