Thread: vicmarc multi purpose jaws not step jaws

Looks like the inner dovetail segments can be removed.

Both rings are removable and there are also some threaded holes that would take studs or pads I think. Not really big enough to work as Cole jaws though.
With the multi purpose jaws you can effectively make two large sizes of dovetail jays by w
fitting the appropriate rings.
Step jaws have a number of sizes fixed on the jaws.
The chuck manuals available on the Vicmarc Website have good diagrams.

The multi-purpose jaws can be used with all four, three or two of the dovetail segments to hold irregular (face plate) blanks, or for performing offset turning on face plate orientated blanks for items such as necklace pendants etc.

They can also be used with custom made secondary jaws bolted to the Vicmarc jaw bases or hold down clamps / buttons, with the dovetail segments removed. The secondary jaws can be made from plastics, wood, plywood etc.

Like everything in turning there are associated hazards and practical / safe limits in undertaking such tasks using the above proceedures.

Pages 14 and 16 have the two sets of jaws illustrated.

Mine are from the 90ies, with 3 sets of jaws. I usually run with the smallest and the largest sets removed. They grip a 108mm tenon, my favourite size.
