Wood Spoked Cart Wheels
Hello! I have just joined and am new to forums. I am seeking to buy or have made, a wooden dog cart complete with wooden spoked wheels. This type of cart was pulled by Rottweilers back in the 1800's when they were known as the "Butcher's Dog."and carted meat . The cart will be on display at the forthcoming annual Sydney Pet & Animal Expo as a historical item. Does anyone know where I could have one made (Have a drawing of what it looks like, but no plans.) The wheels are 10 spokes around 16"-18" dia. Sorry I can't give anymore info.

If you download the plans, you'll find all you ever need to know about making simple wooden wheels. (Ok they're not that simple!)
They are 8 spokers, and 14" diameter, but you should be able to work out how to go about building bigger ones from there.
cheers.

My cousin would probably love helping you... He lives in Milan, though, it might be a bit too far... and he does not like computers. Good excuse to show off some of his scale models, though.

Sovereign Hill at Ballarat had a working shop making wooden cart wheels when last I visited; maybe they could make one to spec.

Yes! That would be great if the whole cart could be made, but time is short. As I don't have plans for a dog cart used around the 1800's, I can only supply a sketch of a dog & cart ~ no dimensions. It would be left up to the maker to estimate size. At a guess I would say the cart dimensions would be in the vicinity of 800mm x 600mm x 400mm depth. Wooden spoked whheels around 16" dia. I am happy to have a go at building it myself, but you guys have much more "know how" than me. What material would be suitable?

I wouldn't mind making one but it would have to be freighted.
I'd need your sketches or a photo etc.
(I'd probably use an interstate furniture removalist)
might be some suitable pics here

The only photo or sketch that I have found was off the website "Dog Carts and the Middle Ages" where one was featured showing a mastiff type dog pulling a cart. It was entitled "Germany. 1876; Butcher Dog Cart" This is all I have to go by. FRom enquiries, I could estimate the size of the cart to be roughly 800mm x 600mm x 400mm depth. Wooden Spoked wheels to be around 16" dia.
Would you be able to estimate cost of making one + freight? If All else fails, I would have a go at it myself. Many thanks for pics and your offer.
