Nova
What is the chuck female thread size?
Modified on: Thu, 17 Feb, 2022 at 11:07 AM
NOVA Chuck Female Thread Sizes : Teknatool InternationalSKU Thread Diameter x Pitch Description 23055 M38 3 SuperNova Chuck 48202 M38 3 NOVA G3 Chuck
Vicmarc
Not so clearly documented, but from what I can find, their smaller chucks have an internal thread of M40/2 and the larger VM120/150 have M45/2.
So, not directly compatible with Nova chucks!
It is not clear to me just how the Vicmarc vaccum chuck is put together, but I'm guessing what you would need is a Vicmarc insert that fits their vacuum chuck and fits your lathe thread size.

There is nothing compatible between Nova and Vicmarc.
You can put Vicmarc chucks on any lathe but it would be blasphemy to put a nova chuck on a Vicmarc lathe.
The Vacuum chuck can be fitted with an insert to suit your lathe or the Vacuum adaptor whether you are using a vacuum pump or a vacuum cleaner.
The rotating unions can be held by the Vicmarc chuck jaws but the preferred way is with an insert to suit.Jim Carroll

Hi Jim
Thanks for the reply.
But what would make you think I would 'want to put a high quality Nova chuck on a junk Vicmarc lathe'?
Actually why I asked the Q is I am about to buy several Vicmarc vacuum chucks and I have several Nova inserts that fit my lathe not being used and was wondering if they might adapt the vacuum chucks to my lathe.
Message from Neil above suggests not. Will have to buy new inserts.
Cheers
Ron

Very droll...
I just hope you guys had a hand on your heart while doing those team taunts...
And, for those who think this by-play is about Vicmarc chucks being far better than Nova, I have to say that none of my half dozen Vicmarc chucks are noticeably better than my half dozen Nova chucks. Both good chucks, although each does have its pros and cons.
Now, if for some unforeseen reason I should end up with a Vicmarc lathe (nothing against them either) it will have to drop the snobbery about Nova chucks real quick or there will be words said...Stay sharp and stay safe!
