Arrow Oven recommendation for rental property

    Hi,

The westinghouse gas oven in my rental property has recently stopped working, I had it repaired two years ago as the gas solenoid had failed, from memory it cost a little over $200 including labour.

I have a feeling the problem is the gas solenoid again as it has the same problem, ignitor is glowing but am not getting a flame.

I do not think it would be a good idea to repair this oven again as more than likely same problem or something else will fail shortly down the track.

I'm actually thinking of having an electricial oven put in as I believe it would be more reliable also I will not have to call a plumber out when it fails as I can just plug in another oven. I will just need to call a plumber to disconnect the gas line from the old oven and block off the line.

I believe there must have been an electric oven previously as there are 2 sets of wiring running to a powerpoint nearby the oven which to me would imply it is heavy duty. (The existing westinghouse plugs into this)

Would someone be able to recommend a reliable electric oven that would be worth looking into, i'm not after any fancy features, just something basic that will be trouble free. I'd be willing to consider something second hand as well.

    It's just a standard 600 x 600 oven that fits into a cavity.

    Thanks

Chances are the existing wiring is not compliant. I am not a domestic sparky so I cant be sure, but I doubt you will get a plug in oven, most will be hard wired. Might be worth getting a sparky to take a look before you commit. If the existing gas oven plugs in, it will most likely be a standard 10A GPO that is only need for the gas igniters/controls

That aside, we had the same issue with a rental property. We ended up using appliancesonline and got a good deal. I think they even organised installation from memory.

You can get a plug in oven. Clipsal made 20A GPOs especially for ovens. Some years ago there was a problem with ovens being stolen from new houses just before the new owners moved in. Clipsal were approached and agreed to manufacture a high amperage outlet so the builders could hand over the keys and wheel the oven in and plug it in without a sparky. Having said all that, unless it is a 20 amp GPO you will also need a sparky to run a new cable from the switchboard and connect the new oven.
Those were the droids I was looking for.
