soundproofing plumbing pipes

I am having a granny flat built on the side of my brick veneer house.

The exterior brick skin has been removed along the side where the flat will be. The slab has been poured, and the frame and roof are in place.

The water pipes in the wall of my bathroom are currently exposed, because the bricks are gone. The wall will be internal now, and will be sound insulated and plastered.

I don't want pipe noise to disturb the occupants of the granny flat, and I don't want noise from the flat to enter the house.I am using polyester insulation in the cavity, and two layers of 10 mm SoundCheck plaster, with QuietWave membrane between.

Does anyone have any advice about lagging/soundproofing the pipes?

treat same as for fire rated walls - ie fire rated silastic. all the brands have it, and as well as fire rated its usually accoustically rated because its much denser.

Hi, I work as a plasterer and I notice that good plumbers use a silicon sealant where the pipes travel through the joists etc. Similar to no-more-gaps. They say that it reduces hammer and vibration. May as well give it a try now that you have access to the pipes.

i am not sure about the pipe noise you are worried about ,is it possible water hammer ,waste water pipes , sewerage waste ,please specify so that this forums enormous wealth of knowledge can advise

Tom, It's the water pipes in the wall. I have put silicone in the holes in the studs where the pipes go thru, and will look into the lagging suggested above

if its only water pipes then silicone in all holes will stop water hammer or vibration , lagging will only add an extra cost with no real benefits added
