You can get a petrol tank putty that you kneed together and fill the hole/split into the tank, worked well on my gokart tank and mower tank...might be ok

Actually, thinking about it, I've come across that before - it's a solid version of epoxy, used by miniature model makers

I used to own some - been wracking my brain to remember what it was called. (Probably still have some in the attic - well dead now!)

i can keep welding it up (plastic weld) but this will only sot that crack and soon a new one will apear and the fuel will begin flowing out again.

i was after a long term fix.

maby i could compleatly cover the tank in fibergalass or sompthing?

I've just repaired mine with fibreglass. I dropped it and the tank gained a long crack and I had a fibreglass kit from Supercheap Auto that I hadn't used. But I've been told by my brother (a panelbeater) that it may not work because plastic is "oily" (in his words) and fibreglass doesn't stick to it all that well.

You might be able to rig up a new tank out of one of those little aluminium camp fuel bottles, a length of aluminium tube welded or epoxied on (I'd go the welding option myself) to attach the hose, and a few nylon zip ties to hold it in position.

You'd need to put a little drill hole in the lid to let air come in as petrol flows out.

I've seen some flash looking "I'm a pretend racer" accessories that could be modded to work - Supa Cheap Auto has an oil catch bottle complete with anodised cap that would really pimp your weeder!

i was going to use the tank off the old victa but the lid has to be pointing up and most are streight out the side.

it would need to come out of the side on an angle upwards.

i'll take a pic and se if we can work sompthing out.

its got me buggerd.

A few years ago a freind had the same problem, was told the tank would cost $190, so he made up his own in fibreglass using the old tank to make a mold

Carl, could you adapt the fuel tank off a newer model Stihl, or even a differnt brand, to suit your machine?

Might be able to get one for a reasonable price from a local dealer.


Some fuel tanks have 2 fuel lines going to the carb (fuel feed & fuel return) and the breather in the fuel cap; some have a fuel cap that seals and three lines exiting the tank (one fuel feed, one return, and one is a short one with a breather on the end). How would you go using a 1 litre oil container (even a stihl one )for the fuel tank, using the stock oil container cap, and just make sure you rig up a breather somehow (otherwise a slight vacuum will form as the machine uses fuel & it might starve). Would have to lay the machine on it's side to refuel but that's no biggie.
