Ok, so I'm aware this is likely to attract criticism, so first let me say that it's from the perspective of wanting to reuse material rather than send it to landfill.

I have a timber framed, weatherboard clad, tin roofed shed. I'm going to line the inside with chipboard and intend to insulate the walls at the same time (using batts). Along with the chipboard I also ended up with quite a lot of 1m x 2m pieces of new carpet, which is destined for the tip. However, I got to thinking about whether I could put at least some of it to a better use.

So I wondered if there would be any benefit to putting a layer or two in between the studs (i.e. behind the chipboard) as additional thermal or sound insulation?

Along the same lines ... the timber truss / tin roof is completely exposed from below. Would there be any perceivable thermal or sound insulation benefit from neatly stapling carpet to the underside of the truss top chords with the hessian side of the carpet facing down. Perhaps some battens would be required to stop it from sagging too much over time.

Just conceptual ... any thoughts?
