hi everyone, we bought our house about a 18months ago and its slowly coming into spring/summer which means warmer weather, and we'd like to keep our double sliding balcony doors open a bit later but dont want the bugs. so we'd like to get some sliding doors installed.

we got a 3 quotes and they're all in the range of $450 - 500 which just seems really expensive considering i can make a fly screen for a window for like 30 or 40 bucks (done this one a few windows so far). i'd just like to know if its possible to buy the materials and construct the sliding/rolling screen doors your self. do places like home hardware etc sell kits or materials? as per the photo's the tracks and everything are already there its just the actual construction of the door that is needed.

one of the quotes mentioned we'd need a baton across the middle? is this true? we don't have any small children (or visitors with small children) and only 1 cat that doesn't claw things. can we get away with out a baton or would you need to put alot of tension on the screen material its self which would pull the door out of square?

thanks for any input that i can get.
